OUR STORY
Where the great grey-green Limpopo bends
Tolile — a Tswana word meaning “I have found it” — sits on a dramatic bend in the Limpopo River in the heart of Limpopo Province, South Africa. This family-owned safari lodge has been managed across three generations, guided by professional hunters who have spent lifetimes learning every fold of this ancient landscape.
The Limpopo forms the northern boundary — on the opposite bank, Botswana begins. Hippos and crocodiles surface at dawn. Fish Eagles cry at dusk. The African sun ignites the river copper and gold. Tolile is where hunters become storytellers.
“You too will say — Tolile. I have found it. I have found the place I have been looking for.”

WHAT WE OFFER
Crafted Experiences
From the moment you decide to visit Tolile, every detail is taken care of. We arrange airport shuttle transfers from Johannesburg or Polokwane, or you can arrive in style directly on our private airstrip — large enough to accommodate light aircraft and private charter flights. Once at the safari lodge, days are shaped entirely around your desires: early-morning game walks as the mist rises off the Limpopo, guided game drives across the bushveld, sundowners on the open plains as the sky turns amber, and unhurried bush dining by firelight under a canopy of southern stars. We cater equally to dedicated hunters, photographic safari guests, birders, and leisure travellers — every experience crafted to the individual.

THE CASE OF SOUTH AFRICA
Why Hunt in in South Africa?
South Africa offers the most professionally managed, ethically grounded, and legally transparent trophy hunting
experience on the continent. Here is everything an American hunter needs to know before booking.
🌍
CITES & INTERNATIONAL REGULATIONS
CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) governs the export of all wildlife trophies. South Africa is a CITES signatory and operates a strictly regulated quota system for all huntable species.
Most species hunted at Tolile — including buffalo, kudu, sable, roan, impala, eland, and zebra — are listed under CITES Appendix II or are not CITES-listed at all, meaning export permits are straightforward and routine. Your professional hunter and our appointed dip & ship company manage all CITES documentation on your behalf.
🦅
US IMPORT REGULATIONS (USFWS)
Trophies imported into the United States are regulated by the US Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS). For the vast majority of plains game species hunted in South Africa, import is legal and well-established.
Required documentation: CITES export permit from South Africa, USFWS Form 3-177 (Declaration for Importation or Exportation), and species-specific import permits where required. All trophies must be imported through a US port of entry designated for wildlife (JFK, LAX, Miami, Chicago, Dallas, and others).
We strongly recommend using a licensed US customs broker specialising in wildlife imports, and our dip & ship partners can recommend proven professionals.
THE ETHICAL CONSERVATION MODEL
Hunting funds conservation. This is not a slogan — it is documented fact. South Africa’s private game reserves, including Tolile Safari Lodge in Limpopo Province, have restored wildlife populations across millions of hectares that were once degraded agricultural land. This transformation was financed almost entirely by hunting revenue.
The model works as follows: landowners and safari lodge operators invest in wildlife management, anti-poaching, habitat restoration, and species reintroduction because those animals have measurable economic value through hunting. Remove hunting revenue, and the economic incentive to maintain wildlife habitat collapses. Academic studies by the IUCN, Conservation Force, and multiple African governments have consistently confirmed that well-regulated trophy hunting, when the revenue reaches local communities and landowners, is one of the most effective conservation tools available in Africa.
At Tolile, every hunt is conducted within annual quotas set by Limpopo Province’s Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET). Our professional hunters are registered with and licensed by the provincial authority. Quotas are conservative, species populations are monitored annually, and trophy quality continues to improve across the Tolile property — proof that the system works. outh Africa offers the most professionally managed, ethically grounded, and legally transparent trophy hunting
experience on the continent. Here is everything an American hunter needs to know before booking.
